Fox News Apologizes For Disrespecting Aretha Franklin

Fox News Channel is catching heat after mistakenly using a photo of Patti LaBelle in an on air tribute to the deceased Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin.

The image that had the internet streets buzzing featured Franklin in the foreground and LaBelle in the background. The photo was taken back in 2014 when both Re Re and Patti performed for President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House. It took many folks by surprise because the two didn't perform together and in the words of Carla Ferrell "allegedly" had, what many would describe as, a contentious relationship.

In effort to recoup from their failed efforts, Vice President of the Media Desk, Jessica Santosstefano issued an apology on behalf of Fox:

"We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin’s family and friends. Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.”

Despite the status of their relationship, Patti expressed how deeply saddened she was by death of her "sister in song."

"The world has experienced a tremendous loss. Aretha was a rare treasure whose unmatched musical genius helped craft the soundtrack to the lives of so many. My sympathy, love, and prayers go out to her family, loved ones, and fans across the globe."

Aretha Franklin died at her Detroit home on Thursday morning surrounded by her family and close friends.

Our prayers go out to the family and friends of Aretha Franklin.
