Florence - Boil Water Advisory

There is a boil water advisory for Florence.

Here is the statement from the City of Florence:
BOIL WATER ADVISORY – Issue Date January 5, 2018 (Remains in effect until further notice) Due to water main breaks that occurred during the night associated with the extreme cold temperatures, we have experienced system-wide disruption of water services to many of our utility customers.

The City is working diligently to restore water service throughout these areas. The City of Florence and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) advise water system customers to boil their tap water vigorously for one minute prior to using it for drinking or cooking. There has been no contamination of the system. However, because of the loss of pressure a potential for bacteriological contamination exists. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) requires the City of Florence to issue this advisory when an event occurs that allows the possibility for bacteria to enter the water system. Water customers should continue to vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking or cooking until otherwise notified by the City of Florence. Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes. The boil water advisory is a precautionary measure to protect public health until test results confirm the water is safe to drink. Because the water quality is unknown at this time, customers are urged to take appropriate precautions. Test results for bacteriological quality should be completed within 24 hours after water service is restored at which time the City will notify customers regarding the status of the boil water advisory.

This information will be posted at www.cityofflorence.com, the city’s official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/cityofflorence , or please call the City of Florence Public Works & Utilities Department, 843-665-3236.
