Hurricane Michael still a powerful storm, entering Georgia

Hurricane Michael is now in southwest Georgia and southeast Alabama with winds down to 115 mph.   

As of 6 p.m.,  Hurricane Michael is still a powerful hurricane as it heads toward the north-northeast at 16 mph.  

Tropical storm and storm surge warnings have been extended along the South Carolina and North Carolina coasts, but a storm surge watch that included the Bay Area has been discontinued.

Hurricane Michael made landfall at Mexico Beach west of Apalachicola shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday as a category 5 hurricane with 155 mile-an-hour winds, one of the strongest hurricanes to hit the state of Florida.
