R. Kelly Reportedly Hires Bill Cosby's Former Lawyer Amid 'Sex Cult' Claims

R. Kelly has reportedly hired Bill Cosby's former attorney Monique Pressley to represent him. This news comes one week after Buzzfeed published an extensive report that claimed the R&B singer was holding young women captive, brainwashing and abusing them in a "sexual cult" in his Chicago and Atlanta homes.

According to The Daily Mail, it's not known yet as to whether Kelly is under investigation right now for these accusations or not. Parents of the alleged captives have had authorities perform welfare checks at one of Kelly's homes as recently as Dec. 2016. However, no one was home when the police arrived to search the property and no further steps were taken by cops.

Pressley used to represent the former "Cosby Show" star up until Aug. 2016. During her time as Cosby's lawyer, she defended him with so much passion that she was gained respect for how much of a -- for better use of words -- "pit bull" she was. Her firm, The Pressley Firm PLLC, specializes in “civil litigation, crisis management and communication.”

“The DC-based trial attorney is well-known for her appearances as a legal contributor across the news networks,” The Daily Mail reports about Pressley. “Pressley stepped down as a member of Cosby’s legal team in his sexual assault case last August after previously mounting a vigorous defense of the disgraced star during TV interviews.”

One of the mothers of the alleged captives previously told Buzzfeed that she desperately wants something to be done in order for her daughter to leave Kelly's home. “I have not talked to my daughter in more than a year," a woman named Theresa said. "We’ve had deaths in the family, birthdays, and I haven’t heard from her and she hasn’t been here for any of it. I didn’t even hear from her on Mother’s Day. All I want to do is bring her home.”

The singer's camp has denied all cult allegations in a statement that reads: "Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed at the recent revelations attributed to him. Mr Kelly unequivocally denies such allegations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name."

Pressley has yet to comment on reports of her representing the recording artist.
